I wish I could read CHINESE... |

|
...then I would know what was written about me and my paintings! An article in the 2010 Spring Issue of CHINESE WATERCOLOR features four of my paintings. It was a great honor to have been asked by Zhou Tianya, the editor, to be one of the first contributing American Watercolor Artists to be featured in the only art publication in China. Three of the four paintings featured, including one on the back cover of the magazine, KOI AND CHERRY BLOSSOMS, were inspired by photos I took during my painting tour to Japan in 2008. The fourth, CHINATOWN: SAN FRANCISCO, was inspired by photos taken on a trip to Chinatown in San Francisco in 2004. Having my work published in a Chinese art magazine was a good reminder to have my camera handy where ever I travel... and to use a lot of Winsor Red watercolor paint because RED is the Chinese color for "happy feeling and lucky image." That sums up my feeling about the painting process...happy and lucky!
Happy Painting! Judy | |

WATERCOLOR SECRETS Now Available: North Light Books or Amazon.com |

|
| WATERCOLOR SECRETS showcases the best of contemporary watercolor paintings. WATERCOLOR SECRETS was inspired by the very popular series of SPLASH books. But instead of featuring as many as 100 artists in each edition, the editors chose 15 "icons" of the media. Judy is very delighted to announce she is one of the 15 artists chosen to explain her process of watercolor painting in her own chapter. The quote on the front of WATERCOLOR SECRETS describes the book as "An inside look at the techniques of award-winning SPLASH artists." There are 15 mini-workshops between the covers of WATERCOLOR SECRETS.
Judy's work has also been featured in SPLASH 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, & SPLASH 11 which will be available in July 2010.

WATERCOLOR BASICS: LIGHT Now available in CD form. |

|
My passion for watercolor painting grew by painting endless hours in my studio, testing techniques, learning to use color and value, and finding solutions to the watercolor problems I encountered along the way. I found the element that made painting in watercolor so intriguing for me was the effect light had on the subjects I choose to paint. The success of my book, WATERCOLOR BASICS: LIGHT (SOLD OUT) prompted me to offer the same information in CD form. On the CD I share information on how tools, materials, and techniques will best help you “capture” and create paintings that are filled with light. I show you how light falling across objects turn ordinary subjects into extraordinary paintings. I explain when to keep light subtle and when to exaggerate light. I share what I’ve discovered because I want you to find the same joy in painting light I have found. This instructional CD is to be viewed on any computer. It can be ordered by sending a check for $25.00 (US funds only please... includes shipping and handling within the US) to: Judy Morris AWS NWS 2404 East Main Street Medford, OR 97504 | |
